William Beaumont Hospital
Cancer Center
Royal Oak, Michigan
In response to increasing demand for high-quality cancer treatment, Hobbs + Black worked with William Beaumont Hospital for the development of a new freestanding Cancer Center on the Royal Oak Campus. The program includes diagnostic clinical treatment and education services for all cancer specialties including womens, bone, throat and pediatrics.
The theme of the Cancer Center is "patient care" - an environment where the patient is cared for through the process beginning with greeting and registration and extending through treatment.
Beaumont and the design team have developed a sophisticated environment around a major education core which features a full patient and caregiver library, and a multimedia facility conference center in a daylit atrium setting. The facility, which is detailed in woods and granite, also houses a family education conference area in an atrium setting, a scheduling center, and a centralized waiting administrative and support functions.
A concierge station greets patients on each floor and directs traffic, enhancing already simple way-finding. Connection to the main Hospital is by a second-level skybridge and a below-grade tunnel. |
