Detroit Medical Center Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan Detroit, Michigan Growth in the need for rehabilitative services, combined with competition in the marketplace and the continuing teaching mission of the Detroit Medical Center have focused the need for a major upgrading program and expansion of the Rehabilitation Center of Michigan. The renovation will be directed primarily at the inpatient program of the Center as a 94-bed Rehabilitation Hospital. The outpatient services of the Rehabilitation Center was developed as a new addition to the existing Hospital. The project calls for renovating 66,000 square feet of area on four floors of the existing building. The layout of patient rooms will be created as four similar floors (three, four, six and seven). It is anticipated that this project can be constructed over a period of 51 months in two phases. The new addition covers 23,000 square feet and extends westward toward John R Street. Physician offices, outpatient therapy programs and a running track are located in the new facility. The new construction includes a new main entrance with a covered patient drop-off. The existing Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan facility is 50 years old. While the building has served the Institute well, the current development program addresses and upgrades the entire infrastructure of the building. With this upgrading, the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan complex should be well positioned to serve the community for another 50 years. The $26 million Institute will be complete in 2005-2006. |
