Evans Scholars Scholarship House Ann Arbor, Michigan The
Evans Scholarship, sponsored by the Western Golf Association, administers the
largest privately funded college scholarship program in the nation with more
that 800 scholars currently enrolled in college. The
existing Scholarship House was demolished to make room for the new 25,000 square
foot facility at 1800 Washtenaw Avenue. The new house is a 52-bed student home,
featuring suites shared between four students, a reception area for guests and parents,
and two student study areas. It is also one of the first buildings in Ann Arbor to
utilize a fully underground storm water retention system. As
the architect of record, Hobbs + Black designed the building with
features reminiscent of the larger brick or stone fraternity and sorority houses
on the University of Michigan’s central campus. The new house features contemporary
architecture, like curved glass floor to ceiling windows in the two student
study rooms, but the house is also traditional in its form and detail.
