Great Lakes National Bank
Ann Arbor, Michigan

The design of the Great Lakes Bancorp Headquarters expansion and renovation responded to two important goals.  First, to create a facility that reflected the Bank’s leadership position in Michigan’s financial community, and second, to develop an “employee sensitive” environment that met current and projected space needs.  Thses goals were developed with the participation of Department Heads and individual employees through an extensive facilities requirement survey.  This cooperative effort has resulted in a “friendly” environment for employees that is also highly functional in terms of the Bank’s operations.

The interior design establishes a sense of solidity, permanence and strength with the use of materials such as Carnelian granite, solid oak and polished brass.  The two-story atrium, which features a wall of water streaming into a fountain base, plant species indigenous to Michigan and contemporary art by Michigan artists, reflects the bank's commitment and pride in the State's citizens and natural resources.
