Immanuel's Temple Community Church
Lansing, Michigan

This new church was designed and constructed for a nondenominational congregation. The 64,000 square foot building, with an exterior of textured concrete masonry with precast concrete trim, is comprised of a sanctuary, administration offices, a multipurpose room, and an educational wing.

When stepping through the church’s main entrance, a procession of specially designed transitional spaces creates an environment aimed to lift the spirits of all who enter in preparation for visiting the sanctuary. The rooms evolve from a low-ceiling vestibule to a sloped-ceiling foyer that rises to meet the high-ceiling of the entrance hall.

The 2,000-seat sanctuary has a fan-shaped floor plan with a pulpit at the base. The shape is emphasized at the ceiling with uplighted recesses that branch out over the pulpit. The pew seating is arranged so that there are 1,500 seats on the main floor and 500 seats on the balcony level.

The multi-purpose room was designed for small weddings, funerals, and baptism ceremonies, as well as banquets. There is a full commercial kitchen adjacent to the multi-purpose room. The baptistry is located behind large solid oak doors at one end of the multi-purpose room. The classroom wing is designed to accommodate the church’s religious education program for both adults and children.
