Oakland Regional Hospital Orthopedics and Rehabilitative Services Southfield, Michigan The
focus of Oakland Regional Hospital is wellness-based featuring orthopedics and
rehabilitative services. The four operating room surgical center drives this vision.
The center and its support functions occupy the fifth floor. The roof was raised to
accommodate high ceilings and mechanical space required for modern operating rooms.
The rooms are oversized to allow for the widest variety of surgical cases. Support
and staff areas are in close proximity to increase staff efficiency while reducing
fatigue in the fast-paced surgery arena. The
renovated third and fourth floors house a combination of private and semi-private
rooms. Staff and visitor areas are present on each floor minimizing transport
disruptions to patients and staff. The
second floor contains in and outpatient rehabilitation therapy functions; new,
large and open gym spaces with views to the outside. All support and staff areas
are integrated into the design to maximize staff efficiency and patient comfort. Functions
located on the first floor include outpatient clinics, radiology with mobile
MRI/CT Scan port, pharmacy, dietary, administrative and central registration.
All departments and functions were reconfigured in an effort to streamline
operations, increase patient satisfaction/comfort and maximize efficiency. The
last component of this project was the exterior building and site upgrades.
An entire building facade renovation replaced the old worn-out materials and
dramatically increased the curb appeal of the facility. The expanded drive-under
canopy has more of a hospitality look as opposed to an institutional look.
Renovated parking and landscape areas provide the finishing touch to this
undertaking, leaving the facility in a strong position to increase capacity
and presence as a major healthcare provider.
