The Mall at Partridge Creek Clinton Township, Michigan
The Mall at Partridge
Creek is a new open-air regional shopping center located in Clinton Township, Michigan.
The first shopping center built in Macomb County in more than 30 years, the center is
approximately 612,000 square feet and houses 3 anchor stores as well as 85-90 stores and
restaurants.
As an open air,
outdoor lifestyle center, the mall was designed and built to provide a park-like
atmosphere. Building materials and colors pay homage to the center’s Michigan
location, while a 300 year-old Burr Oak Tree, preserved through the construction
process provides a relaxing focal point. A number of elements were included to contend
with Michigan’s changing seasons and sometimes harsh conditions. The extensive paver
system, a focal point of the mall, incorporates a snow melt system. A thirty foot
fireplace provides not only a place to warm up, but also a pleasant gathering place.
Wide use of canopies provide additional shelter from the elements.
A number of
additional unique park like amenities create an atmosphere that encourages people to
stay a little longer and come back more often. Bocce ball courts and a children’s play
park provide opportunities for recreation among the shopping center. Three different
fountains, including an interactive 85-foot pop jet fountain, provide ambience as well
as entertainment. Adding significantly to the park like environment, shoppers are
encouraged to bring their dogs, with multiple dog comfort areas providing water and
plastic bags.
The design and
construction of the project involved a number of challenges, not the least of which
was the coordination of multiple design firms including architects for the developer,
anchor stores and tenants. The project was also constructed in a tight time frame and
the large number of contractors worked on multiple job sites simultaneously to bring the
project in on time.
