Increasing volumes in surgical procedures have placed heavy burdens on existing inpatient Hospital operating suites. To support the growth in primarily outpatient procedures, including ophthalmic and orthopedic, the Oakwood Healthcare System has developed a partnered relationship with physicians, Volunteer Enterprises, Inc., an independent surgical organization and The Farbman Group, representing real estate for the development of a freestanding ambulatory surgery center.

Southshore ASC is designed as a hospitality based ambulatory surgery center using a model of 6 surgical suites. The 30,000 square foot facility caters to patient friendliness and convenience in its approach. The medical quality of the center is assured through its Hospital partnership, and from that point the directive is hospitality and convenience. All patient prep and recovery is managed through private patient rooms (28 suites), and the atmosphere is that of an upscale hotel. Refelecting a contemporary style, the project introduces a warm and welcoming atmosphere while retaining the image of authority and stability.

The site for the Southshore ASC Building is located directly at the front of Oakwood Southshore Hospital in Trenton, Michigan. In addition to the ambulatory surgery center, the building features a major diagnostics, clinical and physician’s office facility containing 20,000 square feet of space.

The architecture of the center reflects a contemporary edge, enhancing the existing Oakwood Southshore Hospital campus. The intent is to present a welcoming and friendly center with simple access, while retaining strength and permanence.
