In association with the President’s office and the Athletic Department, Hobbs + Black Architects has completed the Waldo Stadium East Side Renovation for Western Michigan University.  The new construction includes a three tier steel and precast concrete structure that houses enclosed and open-air seating, toilet facilities, enclosed pressbox and media spaces for television and radio.  The open-air seating at the upper level is protected by a sun canopy in the school colors of yellow and brown.

Because the structure receives only limited seasonal use, the design accomodates climatic shifts when the spaces are not mechanically conditioned through the use of durable materials and special attention to detailing.

In addition to the new structure, an electrical sub-station which services the east side campus has been added as well as grandstand seating.  The extra seating brings the stadium capacity up to current NCAA Division 1A standards.
