Woodside Bible Church Troy, Michigan
The Phase I design of the
Woodside Bible Master Plan takes advantage of the remarkable natural setting.
The form of the building, a central core developed around the auditorium with
radiating spokes forming the office and classroom wings, is designed to frame
the views eastward towards both the natural wetlands and a pristine grove of
100-year old hardwood trees. This space in turn is intended to be a private
courtyard and outdoor gathering area.
While primarily a
two-story, masonry building, the dominant form on the exterior will be the
auditorium which seats approximately 1,800 on the main level. It has a sloping,
metal roof rising up to the highest point on the site, a 90-foot tower. Smaller
mechanical and accessory spaces surround this primary element, thereby reducing
the overall scale of the building and providing a more pedestrian character.
Internally, the worship
space is designed in a fan-shape to maximize the acoustics, lighting and sight
lines towards the stage. A state-of-the-art sound and lighting system is incorporated
to provide the church with full capability for theatrical performances. The upper
balcony level, provides upwards of 750 additional seats.
Culminating the work involved
with the Phase I portion are the fellowship hall and gymnasium, with a commercial
grade kitchen facility located between both for ease of access.
Future phasing options will
include expansion of the office and educational environments, expansion of the
recreation programs, and the addition of a senior residential housing component,
bringing the total amount of proposed building space to 220,000 square feet. |
