Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Center for Health Services Brownstown, Michigan Henry Ford Health System retained Hobbs+Black to provide
strategic planning for their replacement hospital campus in Brownstown Township. Initial
pieces of the project include the master plan for long-term development as well as the opening
phase of development – design and construction of the Ambulatory Care Center. The plan, developed through working sessions between
Henry Ford and Wyandotte Hospital administration, the community of Brownstown Township
and planners from Hobbs+Black considers an ultimate build-out of a 2-phase Ambulatory Care Center,
2-phase Medical Office Building and phased inpatient facility with the potential to develop
approximately 1,600,000 square feet on the campus. Integrating Henry Ford Health System with Wyandotte General
Hospital, the project is designed as a completely flexible model supportive of growing
population trends in the area and changing healthcare economics. The site and the building(s)
themselves are a flexible entity allowing for multiple stages of growth for any service line
in any direction. Architecture for this medical complex is equally innovative.
Three types of architecture were developed, each focusing on one of the aspects of the center,
and uniting, not only as a facility, but also in support of the collaborative effort between
Henry Ford Health System and Wyandotte General Hospital. The Henry Ford Wyandotte Center for Health Services
has been the subject of tremendous reviews in the community. Planning for the facility
works and the architecture is visible, substantial and delivers the Henry Ford identity
to the newly emerging downriver district. This project has led to the commissioning of
Hobbs+Black by Henry Ford for development of the Henry Ford New Center Ambulatory Care Center,
a major renovation program of the first floor at Henry Ford Main Hospital, a security planning
study for Henry Ford Main and most recently additional ambulatory masterplanning.
